Rare-earth and trace elements of the lower Cambrian–Lower Cretaceous siliciclastic succession of NE Gondwana in Jordan: from provenance to metasomatism

چکیده

The present bulk-rock geochemical study aims to answer some questions concerning the distribution and variability of trace elements (TEs) rare earth (REEs) in lower Cambrian–Lower Cretaceous sandstones mudstones NE Gondwana Jordan. proved that REE TE patterns both detrital authigenic, light heavy minerals are controlled principally by source-rock provenance, followed an interplay many factors: chemical weathering, recycling, hydraulic sorting, locally low-temperature, hydrothermal metasomatism, depositional environment redox conditions, diagenesis. On basis specific elements, trace-element ratios, petrographic proxies, provenance is constrained be mainly felsic-, rarely mafic granitoids Arabian-Nubian Shield, less commonly, recycled Palaeozoic Mesozoic siliciclastic strata. REEs hosted zircon, Ti-bearing minerals, partly clay minerals. They were depleted weathering recycling; nevertheless, they enriched subsequent sorting metasomatism. Chemical initially zirconium. However, this was counteracted enrichment through fractionation other TEs, due these sedimentological factors during genesis subarkosic arenites, quartz arenites mudstones, discussed conclusions derived. Eu negative anomaly enhanced significantly recycling Scandium abundance increased with decreasing grain size from coarse sand mud fraction. recorded might also apply siliciclastics similar, geological environments.
